Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said in a social media post that the data centre would contribute to the state’s development journey.
The facilities have been designed to meet the RBI’s computing requirements and establish a secure, resilient, scalable and future-ready computing ecosystem for the bank and the broader financial sector.
According to a government statement, the data centre will host mission-critical payment and settlement systems, along with other flagship initiatives. It is expected to contribute to expanding the reach, efficiency and reliability of digital financial services, providing a secure digital foundation for India’s increasingly technology-driven financial economy.
The government said the Cybersecurity Training Institute would strengthen capability building by providing a dedicated institutional platform for cybersecurity and enterprise-technology training, research and sector-wide capability development.
An official statement said the state-of-the-art data centre had been certified to the Uptime Institute Tier IV standard, a global benchmark for data centre infrastructure that represents the highest tier of operational resilience. The facility is among the largest Tier IV-certified facilities in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector worldwide.
Spread across 18.55 acres, the RBI facility is located in Info Valley-II. The foundation stone was laid by then RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on March 22, 2023.
The site was selected for its geographical stability, away from seismically active zones and high-risk international border areas. According to the information provided, this location reduces the facility’s exposure to natural disasters and geopolitical vulnerabilities.
The inauguration marks a significant development in the RBI’s infrastructure expansion, with the data centre intended to support critical financial systems and the accompanying institute focused on strengthening cybersecurity training, research and technological capabilities across the financial sector.
